American Century Investments had a dilemma. Record growth required many new reports; writing projects were spread between in-house staff and freelancers, and different report types required different processes. They wanted to be certain that the firm could keep up with its increasing project quantity without sacrificing messaging quality or accuracy.

With so many creative writers working on projects for one firm, it can be hard to keep things on track and consistent. American Century needed a partner who could not only supply and manage freelance writers, but also stay on top of all the moving parts in the report process. Purcell Communications’ extensive network of writers and project managers was a perfect fit to manage the entire reporting process.


SOLUTION: START-TO-FINISH REPORT PROCESS MANAGEMENT

Purcell Communications took care of the problem with start-to-finish report process management. We assigned experienced process management professionals with the right skillset to oversee every step, from pre-project planning to post-project review. Each quarter, our project managers fielded requirements, planned activity, and bridged the gap between freelance writers and internal team members to make certain that everyone had the information they needed.

In total, Purcell Communications project managers oversaw the production of 250 commentaries each quarter for the client, coordinating the work of 14 writers and six reviewers across both organizations. We also fielded client feedback and looked for process enhancements that would save the client time and money. Over time, our project managers implemented new technologies and dramatically reduced the time spent on reviews, revisions, and approvals while retaining the variety of formats and versions preferred by American Century’s clients.
